VW Brother Eric Hughes PGJO reaches the grand old age of 90 on Wednesday 9th December

Happy Birthday Eric!

Eric has been a true servant to Masonic charities over many years, and was heavily involved with the Craft Charities at Hope street as far back as the 70s and 80s, as well as devoting time and effort to the Mark Charities where he served as Deputy Leader and then Tuscan Group leader for a combined minimum of twenty years, finally retiring in 2012. The Royal School for the Blind in Wavertree is a cherished charity to Eric.
Eric is much admired by Mark Masons far and wide and this admiration was demonstrated by the link generated with Hawarden Mark Lodge and St George Mark Lodge as, when George Barlow moved from Liverpool he joined Hawarden Mark Lodge, and this was enough for Eric and George to support a system of reciprocal visits year on year between the two Mark Lodges. Notably there were 9 visitors from Hawarden Mark Lodge at the 50 year celebration meeting held for Eric in September 2019. At that meeting, our Provincial Grand Masters, present and past, Keith Beardmore and Peter Connolly, both spoke fondly of this distinguished brother.
Eric has now completed 51 years in St George Mark Lodge, 14 years in Excelsior Mark Lodge, and     43 years in St George RAM Lodge.
Eric retired as Leader of the Tuscan Group of the West Lancashire Mark Charity Groups in 2012, but that in no way signalled any diminution in his influence or support of our Mark Charities.
Eric enjoyed the Mark charity dinner early this year and we can all be assured that, as soon as the wretched virus is controlled, we will see him enjoying his Mark Masonry again, to the full.
Eric, have a great birthday, and we look forward to seeing you in person very soon.
